Hip-to-Waist Ratio Calculator
Research shows that people with "apple-shaped" bodies (with more weight around the waist) face more health risks than those with "pear-shaped" bodies who carry more weight around the hips.
A measurement that takes into account your body shape, and has been shown to be an excellent indicator of your risk of heart disease, and general health, is the Hip-to-Waist Ratio (WHR). The acceptable ratio is different for men and women.
A WHR of
- Men- Less than 0.90
- Women- Less than 0.70
When determining the Hip-to-Waist ratio, take measurements in either centimeters or inches. The waist can be measured at its narrowest point between your ribs and hips after breathing out. Your hips are measured where the buttocks are a maximum when viewed from the side. This calculator evaluates adults (18 and older).
